Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Finale

SPOILERS

To everyone who complained that Battlestar wasn’t going anywhere and that Starbuck shouldn’t have died. . . .

TAKE THAT!

I just watched the season 3 finale, and holy frak was that awesome. Once again Ron Moore has gone over and beyond my expectations:

First, the trial. I’ll admit I was nervous about this trial. Last time BSG tried something like this was back in season one, though that was a military tribunal. Still, it was a weak episode that left a sour taste in my mouth. But this trial kicked Cylon butt. Lee’s admission on the stand was something everyone needed to hear. Now, a lot of people dislike Lee, saying he’s too sensitive. But he is the voice of moral reason, and the only characters that really serves as a moral compass for the viewers. Remember the season two episode, Black Market? We saw a dark side of Lee there, and it was ugly. Lee needs to remain a firmly moral character, for he keeps BSG from going over the edge.

Second, the final. . . four? Do we really know for sure that Tigh, Anders, Tyrol, and Tory are Cylons. It sure looks that way. What does it mean that they choose their human lives over the Cylon revelation? Will they be instrumental in bringing down the Cylons? And who is the final Cylon to round out the final 5? Starbuck?

Which brings me to my third point, STARBUCK! Ron Moore, you bastard. You spoke so definitely about the death of Kara Thrace on your podcast that I didn’t for a second doubt you. Then again, perhaps Kara is only a vision in Lee’s head? Naw, I don’t think so. Moore and company can only dip into that well so many times, and I think it’s used up.

All of this boils down to one thing. Season 4 is going to rock. That’s my opinion. What do you think?

Very popular topic today. Even I wrote a blog about it.

First off, let me say that my feelings are still very mixed on the show. I did like the Lee admission, but I was pretty sure Baltar was going to get off.

The thing I absolutely hated about the episode was the use of “All Along the Watchtower.” That was about as campy as a show can get. Unless they’re going to try to explain that the cylons were broadcasting something they’d picked up from Earth…no, even then it was campy.

I liked the way they revealed the four (maybe five) other cylons, but I think they’ve set themselves a monumental task to pull this one off.

With all the cliffhangers they left, I think the entire fate of the series will depend on what they do with the first episode of season 4. They have a chance to turn this into something amazing, or turn it into more ridiculous space opera.

I’m hesitanty optimistic that they will really impress us in the next season, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

I pretty much agree with you. 🙂
