AISFP 123 – Gastreich, Chambers, and Wood

Clarkesworld is a monthly science fiction and fantasy magazine first published in October 2006. Each issue contains at least two pieces of original fiction from new and established authors. Their fiction is also collected by issue in signed chapbooks, ebook editions and in their annual print anthology, Realms. Also listen to their original, monthly fiction podcast, and become a Clarkesworld Citizen so this online magazine can continue to bring us the very best in science fiction and fantasy.

We present a triple header of small press publishing goodness. First, Brent chats with M.C. Chambers, author of SHAPER’S VEIL, and Karin Gastreich, author of EOLYN, in a joint interview live from Brent’s basement. Brent is braver than Shaun or Moses, who learned long ago to never take authors home with you! . . . . That’s a joke, folks, in case that’s not obvious. Chambers and Gastreich discuss science based magic systems, why they chose to write fantasy when both their works rely on scientific principle, and their experiences in small press publishing. Then, Moses brings us Jonathan Wood, author of NO HERO, in an Out of the Slush Segment to discuss his journey into publishing and to answer the question, “What would Kurt Russell do?”
